Letters For Work

If you are entering the employed world, writing letters is going to be a huge part of your life. There are letters for clients, resignations, proposals and many others. If you have a secretary, you can always delegate the task to her, but for the meantime, learn how to do it yourself. This article is going to show you how to write a cover letter and a job transfer letter.

Firstly, how to write a cover letter? Many people don't even know what a cover letter is. It is actually something you send to your prospective employer along with your résumé when you apply for a job. It's basically an introduction of yourself, explaining why you want that job.

You have to keep a few things in mind when writing a cover letter. Mainly, your letters have to look professional. Use paper with a personalized letterhead. They can easily be done at any stationery shop. Do not use the letter head of your previous or current employer. It might cause you to lose the job you're after and the job you're currently holding.

Type out the letter for a cleaner look and use the normal format you will use for writing an official letter - the company's address below yours and the date below it. The content should be well proportioned. Start by telling them why you would be a great asset to the company, but not to the point of arrogance. Just explain your skills and hobbies and how they relate to the job you're applying for. Then, end humbly, by saying how delighted you'll be if you get this job. It's also important to use simple language and to be honest.

If you have already filled a job opening and want to move on to better surroundings and still keep your post, you will need to write a job transfer letter. Essentially, you will be asking to be moved to another branch of your company which has the same or similar job requirements.

Here, it is imperative to state clearly your problems with your current job environment and why you need to get away from it. If it's another about another colleague, don't mention names, but just hint enough about the problem. If the matter is personal, state explicitly about the nature of the problem, whether it's financial or familial, and do not elaborate further than you need to.

Knowing how to write cover letters and job transfer letters is an integral part of your working life. It may not make you a millionaire overnight, but it certainly helps.
